AIMp Members agree to undertake robust PSE Training & Awareness programme
In the light of Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) proposals to reclassify medicines containing pseudoephedrine and ephedrine from pharmacy only (P) to prescription only (POM) status and the importance of the retention of these products for community pharmacy and its customers; at the members meeting of the Association of Independent Multiples (AIMp) held on Thursday 12th July at Hilton Leicester, Members present unanimously agreed to support and adopt the Learn Something MethGuard UK programme.
The resolution was passed following proposals put by Steve Allan, Director, to make all members aware of the potential problems and recommended actions to be taken, and also a presentation and update on the pseudoephedrine situation by Helen Darracott, Director of Legal and Regulatory Affairs, PAGB, who stressed the seriousness of the situation and urged members to demonstrate their committment by implementing the training programme within their businesses.
It is anticipated that LearnSomething’s UK programme will be available from early August 2007 and AIMp will be supporting their members to implement the full package of non-statutory measures they have proposed to MHRA, including the awareness programme, as soon as possible and before the outcome of the MHRA’s consultation is known.
AIMp members were confident they could ensure sales of pseudoephedrine containing products were appropriate for patient needs and not for illicit purpose.
